Experienced Secondary Teaching Assistant 

Location: Secondary school based in Stockport
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Start Date: September 2026 

We are seeking an experienced and committed Secondary Teaching Assistant with SEND experience to join our welcoming and supportive school in Stockport.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers across KS3 and KS4, the SEND team, and other support staff to provide high-quality support for students with a range of additional needs, helping them to achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Support students with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and learning needs.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Adapt learning resources to meet individual student requirements.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote student independence.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and the SEND department.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant within a secondary school setting.
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and SEMH needs.
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or other relevant SEND training.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and strategies to support individual learning needs.
