Are you an experienced Construction Tutor, Construction Teacher, or industry professional looking to use your skills to transform the lives of young people?

 

We are working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Leeds to recruit a dedicated Construction Tutor to join their team either immediately or from September 2026.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to support young people who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education, including SEND, SEMH needs, emotionally based school avoidance, and behavioural challenges. Through practical, engaging and vocational learning, you will help students develop valuable skills, gain qualifications, and prepare for future employment and training opportunities.

 

The Role

 

As a Construction Tutor, you will deliver engaging vocational learning programmes that develop practical construction skills alongside employability, confidence and personal development.

 

Working with small groups of learners, you will provide a supportive and structured environment where students can thrive, re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Plan and deliver engaging construction lessons and practical workshops.

Teach a range of construction skills, including basic carpentry, joinery, brickwork, painting and decorating, health and safety, or general construction principles.

Adapt learning to meet the needs of learners with SEND, SEMH and behavioural needs.

Develop students’ practical skills, confidence and employability.

Monitor and assess learner progress and maintain accurate records.

Promote positive behaviour and engagement through strong relationship-building.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/carers and external agencies.

Support students in developing transferable workplace skills.

Ensure all practical activities are carried out safely and in line with health and safety requirements.

Contribute to a calm, inclusive and purposeful learning environment.

 

The Ideal Candidate

Desirable

 

βœ” Experience within the construction industry or vocational construction education

 

βœ” Relevant construction qualifications (NVQ, City & Guilds, Level 3 or above)

 

βœ” Experience working with young people

 

βœ” Strong communication and relationship-building skills

 

βœ” Ability to motivate and engage learners who may have previously disengaged from education

 

βœ” Understanding of health and safety requirements within construction environments

 

βœ” Passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people

 

Additional

 

βœ” Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent)

 

βœ” Experience within Alternative Provision, PRU, SEND or SEMH settings

 

βœ” Experience delivering vocational qualifications

 

βœ” Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches
