We are working with a supportive and well-established specialist provision in Newhaven that is seeking a passionate and resilient teacher to join their team in September 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The ideal candidate will have experience, or a strong interest, in supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and will be confident teaching Key Stage 3 students. Strong behaviour management skills and a nurturing approach are essential.

The role will involve teaching a range of subjects, although the school would particularly welcome candidates with a specialism in:

  • General Secondary / Core Subjects

Students are supported through a highly personalised curriculum alongside a strong pastoral approach that encourages both academic and personal development.

This specialist provision supports pupils aged 11–16 with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education or are at risk of permanent exclusion. Some pupils may also present with associated needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech, language and communication difficulties.

Staff work together to provide a secure, structured and consistent environment where students can regulate emotions, re-engage with education, and achieve their full potential.

About the role

  • Working with students with complex needs, attachment difficulties, trauma, and challenging behaviour
  • Creating a calm, nurturing and engaging learning environment
  • Supporting students’ social and emotional development
  • Delivering differentiated lessons to meet individual needs
  • Experience within SEND/SEMH settings is preferred but not essential
  • Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Understanding of SEMH, Autism, and additional needs
  • Knowledge of the Secondary curriculum
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm and a proactive attitude
  • Ability to follow and implement school policies effectively
