Working Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm
Salary: £100–£105 per day

We are working with a mainstream secondary school in Wakefield that has a dedicated resourced provision supporting students aged 11–16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, learning difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The provision offers students a more personalised and supportive environment while allowing them to remain part of the wider mainstream school community.

The Role: Youth Worker

As a Youth Worker, you will work closely with students within the resourced provision, helping them to engage with education, regulate their emotions, build confidence and develop positive relationships.

This would be a fantastic opportunity for someone from a youth work, mentoring, behaviour support, care, sports coaching or SEND background who is confident building relationships with secondary-aged young people.

Your Key Responsibilities

● Individual Support: Build positive relationships with students and provide tailored 1:1 support where required.
● Learning Support: Work alongside teaching staff to help students access lessons and remain engaged in their learning.
● Behaviour & Regulation: Support students with emotional regulation, using positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
● SEND Support: Work with students with Autism, SEMH and additional learning needs, including those with EHCPs.
● Social Development: Help students develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive social skills.
● Mainstream Integration: Support students to successfully access appropriate lessons and activities within the wider mainstream school.
● Teamwork: Work closely with teachers, SEND staff, pastoral teams and other professionals to provide consistent support.
● Safeguarding & Wellbeing: Help maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all students.

What Makes a Great Youth Worker?

● A genuine passion for supporting young people.
● Confidence building relationships with secondary-aged students.
● Patience, empathy and a calm, consistent approach.
● Experience supporting young people with Autism, SEND, SEMH or barriers to learning would be beneficial.
● Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
● Experience within youth work, schools, care, mentoring, sports coaching or similar environments is welcomed.
● Relevant qualifications in youth work, education, SEND or a related area are desirable but not essential.
