Start date: ASAP
Working hours: 8:30am – 3:50am
Are you a patient, enthusiastic and caring individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs? Do you enjoy building relationships and helping young people develop their confidence, communication and independence?
We are currently recruiting a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Barnet, supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), complex needs and a range of learning difficulties.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference in a child’s education and development, working in a supportive and rewarding school environment.
The role
You will be working with pupils aged 4–16 with a range of needs, including Autism, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and complex needs.
Working closely with the class teacher and wider support team, you will provide tailored support to help pupils access learning, develop essential life skills and reach their individual potential.
The role will involve working with pupils who may require additional support with communication, emotional regulation, behaviour and personal care.
Your responsibilities
Providing 1:1 and small-group support: Build positive relationships with pupils and provide individualised support based on their needs and abilities.
Supporting communication: Encourage pupils to develop their communication skills, using approaches such as Makaton, PECS and other communication aids where appropriate.
Promoting independence: Help pupils develop everyday skills, confidence and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
Supporting learning: Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging, practical and creative classroom activities, adapting these to suit individual learning needs.
Managing behaviour: Use a calm, patient and consistent approach to support pupils with emotional regulation and behavioural challenges.
Personal care: Provide support with personal care, including feeding, toileting and mobility where required.
Creating a positive environment: Help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing classroom where every pupil feels supported and encouraged.
