Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

We are working with a specialist school in Bradford, supporting pupils aged 2–11 with a range of complex needs. The school primarily supports children aged 3–11 with identified SEND, including complex SEND, severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and autism.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils both academically and personally, helping them to develop their communication, independence, confidence and life skills.

You will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide personalised support and help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The role may involve supporting pupils with significant and complex needs, so we are looking for someone who is confident working in a high-needs specialist setting and understands that effective support goes beyond traditional classroom learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with complex SEND.
  • Support pupils with SLD, PMLD, autism and communication needs.
  • Assist with personal care and physical support where required.
  • Promote communication, independence and social development.
  • Support pupils to access learning through personalised strategies and resources.
  • Help maintain a safe, calm and positive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, families and other professionals.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to pupils’ development and progress.
  • Provide consistent, patient and nurturing support throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Confident supporting pupils with complex or high-level needs.
  • Patient, compassionate and resilient.
  • Able to build positive relationships with pupils who may communicate in different ways.
  • Comfortable working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Committed to supporting pupils’ communication, independence and wellbeing.
  • Previous experience with autism, PMLD, SLD or complex SEND would be highly beneficial.

Why Apply?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist setting where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of children with complex additional needs.

You will be supported by an experienced team and have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience within a specialist SEND environment.

If you are passionate about helping children with complex needs reach their potential, we’d love to hear from you.
