Teaching Assistant – KS3-5 Special Needs School

Working Hours: 08:30 am – 16:00 pm.
Salary: £100 per day PAYE

We are seeking an inspiring, patient, and supportive Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and forward-thinking special needs school. The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated support to pupils across KS3–KS5, working closely with teachers and the wider support team to deliver engaging and personalised learning experiences. You will support learners both within the classroom and across the wider school environment, helping them to develop academically, socially, emotionally, and independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Learning: Work alongside teachers to support the delivery of engaging, differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs and abilities of learners across KS3–KS5.
• Individualised Support: Provide targeted one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils to access the curriculum and develop confidence and independence.
• Holistic Support: Support pupils with communication, social interaction, emotional well-being, personal development, and independence skills.
• Collaborate with Specialists: Work alongside teachers, therapists, support staff, and other professionals to ensure each learner’s educational and additional needs are met.
• Assistive Communication: Support the use of communication tools and strategies such as PECS, Makaton, AAC, and other appropriate communication systems where required.
• EHCP Support: Contribute to the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, supporting pupils to work towards their individual outcomes.
• Behaviour and Care Support: Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment, supporting learners with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Track Progress: Record and monitor pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and celebrating achievements and development.
• Family Engagement: Where appropriate, communicate effectively with parents and carers, working as part of the wider team to support pupils’ progress and well-being.

What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will need:

• Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school or SEND setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEND, including SLD, PMLD, ASD, or complex learning needs, would be advantageous.
• A compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach with a genuine commitment to supporting young people.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with pupils, staff, families, and external professionals.
• A willingness to learn and use assistive technologies and alternative communication methods where required.
• The ability to support learners both academically and pastorally across KS3–KS5.
• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable pupils.
