About the role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in helping students with additional learning needs access the curriculum, develop their confidence and make progress both academically and personally.

Working closely with teachers, HLTAs and the wider SEND team, you will provide tailored support both inside and outside the classroom, helping to create an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing one-to-one and in-class support for students with additional learning needs, including SEND.
• Supporting students with cognition and learning needs, communication and interaction difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Delivering or supporting small-group interventions focused on literacy, numeracy, reading, spelling and comprehension.
• Supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, independence and social development.
• Helping students to access and engage with the secondary school curriculum.
• Adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual needs under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging students to participate fully in school life.
• Working collaboratively with teachers, HLTAs, the SEND team and other professionals to support individual students.
• Helping to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where every student can thrive.

The school has a dedicated approach to SEND, with support available through targeted interventions, nurture provision, Learning Support Assistant support in lessons and individualised support where required.

This role would suit an experienced Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant, as well as graduates or individuals looking to develop a career in education, psychology, youth work, teaching or SEND.
