5 Great Reasons Why You Should Hire Overseas Teachers

We are proud to say that we’ve been recruiting and relocating international teachers for schools across England since 2008! The importance of diversity within schools is incredibly high, and we believe that hiring talent across the globe is crucial for the enrichment of students’ lives, both educationally and personally. Recent visa and sponsorship updates have made it even easier for schools in England to source talent worldwide. If you’re looking to recruit teachers for the start of the next school year in September, it may be worth considering international talent.

Here are 5 great reasons why you should hire overseas teachers

Specialised skills

Hiring international teachers gives you the opportunity to hone in on specialised skills. The way that teachers are trained in the UK is completely different to the USA, Australia, Europe, and Asia. Each continent/state/country, although teaching similar fundamentals, will have different approaches to specialised skills and how those can be acquired. For example, schooling in Finland (voted as some of the best schooling in the world) is focused on group learning, eliminating segregation based on academic level and instead encouraging all children to learn from each other.

The teaching in Finland and how teachers approach students are different because of this. Another great example is China, whose education system cultivates incredible maths talent. Their approach and methodologies result in some of the world’s best maths talent! [source]

Variety of teaching styles

Just like with specialised skills, hiring teachers from overseas means they’ll have different teaching styles. This could be in the way that they structure lessons through to how they handle discipline. It’s important that you have a variety of teaching styles because a ‘one size fits all’ approach won’t work for your students. It won’t allow your school to make any improvements – especially if there are multiple development areas.

Diversity of the school’s culture

Particularly in places like the UK and the USA, we’re incredibly lucky to have such diverse schools with students of all backgrounds in attendance. However, celebrating diversity and the multicultural aspect of a school can be hard if you have a homogenous teaching workforce!

Hiring teachers from all over the world doesn’t just improve the diversity within your school, but it also diversifies the school’s culture so students can learn diversely.

Representation

Similar to diversity of culture, representation is important, especially if you have a diverse school. If all of your teachers look, act, and think the same, you’re not providing an inspiring environment for students where they can feel connected to their teachers in one way or another. There are plenty of students who want to become teachers in the long run, so providing representation for these students (to inspire the next generation of teachers) is equally important!

Networking opportunities and collaboration

Global teaching = global opportunities. Having a global teaching workforce or hiring international teachers can allow students to network with other schools and even engage in exchange programmes/away-from-home options. This is a great chance for students to learn about other cultures whilst also experiencing travel whilst being at school.
