Are you an experienced Support Worker, Teaching Assistant or SEN professional with a passion for supporting children and young people with complex needs?

We are currently recruiting for a Complex Needs Support Worker to join a specialist school supporting children and young people aged 4–16. The role involves providing high-quality, personalised support to pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them develop their communication, independence and life skills.

The Pupils

The school supports children and young people with a range of complex needs, including:

  • Autism
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Complex communication needs
  • Learning disabilities
  • ADHD
  • Physical disabilities
  • Complex behaviours
  • Emotional and social needs

This is not primarily an SEMH setting, so we are particularly interested in candidates with experience supporting pupils with autism, learning disabilities, PMLD/SLD and complex communication needs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Complex Needs Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Support children with personal care where required
  • Adapt communication to meet individual needs
  • Provide positive behaviour and emotional support
  • Support the development of life and independence skills
  • Assist with community access and activities
  • Follow individual risk assessments and support plans
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and the wider support team

The ideal candidate will be patient, nurturing and confident when working with children who have complex needs.

You may have experience as a:

  • Support Worker
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Care Worker
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • Complex Needs Practitioner

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with:
