Secondary Cover Supervisor Needed – East Leeds

At Engage, we’re working with a well-established secondary school in East Leeds to recruit a full-time Cover Supervisor to join its dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.

The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining a positive learning environment, ensuring students remain focused and engaged when their usual class teacher is absent.

About the role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes across a range of subjects, delivering pre-prepared work and ensuring students remain on task in the absence of their usual teacher.

The role offers the opportunity to work across different year groups and subjects, making every day varied and rewarding. You will be supported by the school and Engage Education, with guidance and training available to help you develop your skills.

There is very little planning or marking involved, making this an ideal role for someone looking to gain valuable experience within a secondary school environment.

The school places a strong emphasis on high expectations, positive behaviour, and creating an environment in which every student is encouraged to succeed.

About you

To be successful as a Cover Supervisor, you will need to be confident, adaptable and able to establish clear boundaries while building positive relationships with students.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience working with young people aged 11–16
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• The confidence to supervise classes across a range of subjects
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build positive rapport with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• The ability to remain professional and composed when managing challenging behaviour
• Flexibility and adaptability when working with different year groups and subjects
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to follow lesson plans and school procedures
• A positive attitude and genuine interest in supporting students’ education and development
• A firm but approachable manner, with high expectations of student behaviour and learning

We welcome applications from candidates with a range of experience. Previous experience working in a secondary school, as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Youth Worker or similar role would be advantageous.

This role would also be particularly well suited to aspiring teachers or graduates looking to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a teaching career.
