SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: South Oxhey
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time / Long-term
I am currently working with a supportive specialist school in South Oxhey who are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with children and young people with complex special educational needs and wants to make a genuine difference to their learning, development and wellbeing.
About the role
The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), including verbal and non-verbal pupils
- Severe learning difficulties
- Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
- Complex and additional needs
- Communication and interaction difficulties
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to provide personalised support both in the classroom and on a 1:1 basis.
Your role will include:
- Supporting pupils to access learning and classroom activities
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support where required
- Helping pupils develop their communication, independence and social skills
- Supporting pupils with their individual learning and development targets
- Encouraging positive engagement and participation
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Working closely with teachers and other support staff to provide consistent support
- Supporting pupils with a range of complex needs in a calm and patient manner
We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with ASC, PMLD, SLD or complex needs, although candidates with relevant transferable experience and a genuine passion for SEND are encouraged to apply.
The right person will be patient, proactive and resilient, with the ability to adapt their approach to meet the individual needs of each pupil. Experience working with children through youth work, care, support work, theatre, workshops or similar environments can also be highly relevant.
