Job Type: Full-Time | Monday–Friday
Contract: Long-Term | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Start Date: ASAP
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or SEND Support Worker looking for a rewarding role in a mainstream secondary school?
We are recruiting a SEND Teaching Assistant to join the Integrated Resource Provision within a mainstream secondary school, supporting students aged 11–16 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
This is an excellent opportunity to work in a smaller, specialist learning environment while remaining part of a wider mainstream secondary school community.
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in SEND, Autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning disabilities, behaviour support, youth work or specialist education.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work within the school’s dedicated Integrated Resource, supporting students who require additional help to access education, develop independence and build their confidence.
Students may have a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD and attention difficulties
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Speech, language and communication difficulties
- Moderate learning difficulties
- Emotional regulation and sensory processing needs
Many students will have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and benefit from a structured, nurturing and personalised approach to learning.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to secondary-aged students with SEND.
- Support pupils within the Integrated Resource and, where appropriate, mainstream lessons.
- Help students access learning through adapted activities and individualised support.
- Build positive relationships with young people who may experience anxiety, frustration or barriers to learning.
- Support emotional regulation, social communication and positive behaviour.
- Encourage independence, confidence and engagement in education.
- Work alongside teachers, the SENCO and specialist support staff to meet individual learning needs.
- Help create a safe, consistent and inclusive learning environment.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have previously worked as a:
- SEND Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant
- Secondary School Teaching Assistant
- Autism Support Worker
- Behaviour Support Worker or Learning Mentor
- Youth Worker or Residential Support Worker
- SEN Teaching Assistant within a specialist school, PRU or Alternative Provision
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND is highly desirable, although this does not necessarily need to have been gained in a school.
The ideal candidate will be patient, proactive and confident building relationships with secondary-aged students who may need additional encouragement and reassurance.
Why Apply?
- Full-time, Monday–Friday working hours
- Immediate start available
- Long-term position with potential to become permanent
- Opportunity to work within a dedicated SEND provision
- Supportive secondary school environment
- Valuable experience supporting pupils with EHCPs and additional learning needs
- Access to ongoing training and professional development
- Dedicated support from your Engage Education consultant
