We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive educational setting in Doncaster. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to making a genuine difference to the educational and personal development of young people.

The setting provides a supportive and engaging environment where students are encouraged to develop their confidence, independence and academic skills. You will play an important role in helping students access their education, build positive relationships and develop the skills they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

The Role

● Provide 1:1 and Small Group Support: Work closely with students who require additional support, helping them access lessons and overcome individual barriers to learning.

● Support Classroom Learning: Assist teachers with the delivery of engaging lessons, helping students remain focused, motivated and involved in their learning.

● Adapt Learning Approaches: Use different strategies and approaches to support students with varying abilities, learning styles and additional needs.

● Promote Independence: Encourage students to develop confidence, self-esteem and independent learning skills rather than relying solely on adult support.

● Build Positive Relationships: Establish trusting and professional relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and providing encouragement and reassurance.

● Support Behaviour and Engagement: Help maintain a positive learning environment by using appropriate behaviour-management strategies and encouraging students to make positive choices.

● Monitor Progress: Work alongside teaching staff to identify areas where students may need additional support and contribute to monitoring their progress and development.

● Work as Part of a Team: Communicate effectively with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to ensure students receive consistent and appropriate support.

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will ideally have:

● A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them succeed.

● Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, care or support setting.

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

● Patience, empathy and resilience, particularly when supporting students who may experience barriers to learning or difficulties with engagement.

● A calm and consistent approach to managing challenging situations and behaviour.

● The ability to adapt your communication and support strategies to meet individual student needs.

● A proactive and positive attitude, with the confidence to take initiative when supporting students.

● Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively alongside teachers and wider support teams.

● A commitment to safeguarding, student welfare and promoting an inclusive learning environment.

● The ability to maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate discretion when dealing with confidential information.

Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD, behavioural needs or other additional learning needs would be advantageous, although relevant transferable experience will also be considered.
