Behaviour Mentor Required – Secondary SEMH School in Barnet
About the Role
I am currently working with a specialist secondary school in Barnet that is seeking confident, compassionate and resilient Behaviour Mentors to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a small, therapeutic and nurturing environment for students aged 11–19, with a strong focus on emotional wellbeing, building confidence and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
They are looking for individuals who can build meaningful relationships with students, provide consistent support and help young people feel safe, settled and ready to engage with their education.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about working with young people and wants to make a genuine difference to their lives, development and future prospects.
Your Role
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support to secondary-aged pupils.
- Supporting students with SEMH needs, emotional regulation, anxiety and behavioural challenges.
- Building positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement, confidence and independence.
- Working closely with teachers and other members of the pastoral and support teams to maintain a calm, supportive learning environment.
- Using positive behaviour management strategies to help students manage their emotions and make progress.
- Encouraging pupils to participate in lessons, develop social skills and reach their individual potential.
- Adapting your approach to meet each student’s individual needs and circumstances.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has a confident, outgoing and approachable personality.
- Is patient, resilient and able to remain calm when faced with challenging situations.
- Has a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
- Can build rapport with students who may struggle with trust, anxiety or engagement in education.
- Is proactive, adaptable and able to think on their feet.
- Understands the importance of consistency, boundaries and positive reinforcement.
- Has previous experience working with young people in a school, SEMH, PRU, youth work, mentoring or care setting.
We are particularly interested in candidates with strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with secondary-aged students. Graduates and individuals looking to develop a career in education or pastoral support are also encouraged to apply if they have the right qualities and relevant experience.
