English & Maths Tutor – Alternative Provision
📍 Bradford
⏰ Full-Time | Monday–Friday
📅 Long-Term | Temp-to-Perm Opportunity
Are you an experienced English or Maths Tutor who is passionate about helping young people overcome gaps in their learning and achieve their potential?
We are recruiting an English & Maths Tutor to join a specialist school and Alternative Provision in Bradford, supporting young people who benefit from a smaller, more personalised approach to education.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Tutor, Teacher, HLTA or Intervention Practitioner who is confident delivering English and Maths tuition in small groups, with a particular strength in English.
The Role
Working with pupils individually and in small groups, you will provide targeted tuition based around each young person’s current level and areas for development.
Some pupils will require support to rebuild missing foundations in English and Maths, while others will need to be challenged and stretched towards higher-level qualifications.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging English and Maths tuition to small groups of pupils
- Identifying and addressing gaps in knowledge following initial assessments
- Using CGP resources and existing curriculum materials to structure targeted learning
- Adapting sessions to suit different abilities, learning needs and starting points
- Supporting pupils working towards Functional Skills and GCSE-level study
- Providing additional support with GCSE English, including literature and Shakespeare
- Stretching higher-attaining pupils and helping them work towards more challenging outcomes
- Building positive relationships with young people who may have struggled within mainstream education
- Helping pupils rebuild their confidence and engagement with academic learning
- Monitoring progress and adapting tuition accordingly
About the School
The school provides a highly personalised approach to education for young people who may find conventional mainstream settings challenging.
Pupils can have a range of additional needs and barriers to learning, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, ADHD, anxiety, attachment needs and other SEND.
Learning is tailored around individual starting points, with a strong emphasis on identifying gaps in knowledge, building confidence and helping every young person make meaningful academic progress.
Small-group learning allows staff to develop strong relationships with pupils and adapt teaching to meet individual needs.
Who We’re Looking For
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with previous experience in:
- English and/or Maths tuition
- GCSE English or English Literature
- Functional Skills English and Maths
- Academic intervention or catch-up programmes
- Secondary teaching or tutoring
- Alternative Provision, PRU or SEND settings
- 1:1 or small-group tuition
Strong English knowledge is particularly important, as pupils are beginning to access GCSE-level content and will require support with areas including literature and Shakespeare.
You do not necessarily need to be a qualified teacher; however, you must be confident planning and delivering academic tuition independently and adapting your approach for pupils working at different levels.
The Ideal Candidate
You will be:
- Confident teaching English and Maths
- Particularly strong in English
- Comfortable supporting GCSE-level content
- Patient, resilient and adaptable
- Able to make learning accessible and engaging
- Confident working with pupils who may have gaps in their education
- Able to build positive relationships with young people with SEMH/SEND
- Passionate about helping pupils recognise their academic potential
Why Apply?
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist setting where you can work with pupils in much smaller groups and see the direct impact of your tuition.
Rather than delivering the same lesson to a large mainstream class, you will have the opportunity to understand each pupil’s individual starting point, address the areas holding them back and help them make genuine progress.
Full-time, Monday–Friday position with a long-term temp-to-perm opportunity for the right candidate.
If you have experience tutoring or teaching English and Maths and would love to use your skills to support young people within a specialist education setting, we’d love to hear from you.
