Our education recruitment agency is currently supporting a specialist education setting in the recruitment of a Catering Assistant to join their dedicated team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in preparing and serving good-quality food and who is committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety and cleanliness. The successful candidate will also play an important role in creating a positive and supportive lunchtime environment for pupils.

The Role

Working alongside the Cook/Supervisor and wider school team, you will assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of meals, including catering for special dietary requirements where necessary.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation, cooking and serving of meals.
• Supporting the preparation of food for on-site service and, where required, other settings.
• Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health and safety and cleanliness.
• Cleaning kitchen equipment, the kitchen area and dining spaces.
• Monitoring food supplies and reporting any issues.
• Recording meal requirements, cancellations and additional meals.
• Supporting pupils during lunchtime to ensure meals are completed safely and within the allocated time.
• Working collaboratively with staff to support pupils’ wellbeing and development.
• Reporting relevant observations regarding pupil behaviour to teaching staff.
• Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to a safe, predictable and supportive environment.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous catering experience.
• Experience preparing home-cooked food.
• Good literacy and numeracy skills.
• A Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification.
• An NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation, or equivalent experience.
• A current First Aid qualification, or willingness to undertake appropriate training.
• An understanding of safeguarding and a strong commitment to children’s welfare.
• Experience of working with young people, particularly those who may have experienced challenging circumstances, would be advantageous.
• The ability to remain calm and adaptable in a busy environment.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• The ability to work independently and use initiative.
• A reliable, punctual and positive approach.
• Resilience and the ability to respond calmly to changes at short notice.
