About the Role

Working across Year 1 or Year 2, you will play a key role in supporting the class teacher with daily learning, classroom organization, and pupil engagement. You will lead small-group interventions in phonics, reading, and early mathematics, assist with whole-class activity management, and provide extra guidance to pupils preparing for key milestones, including the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering small-group phonics (e.g., Read Write Inc. or Little Wandle) and early literacy boost sessions.
• Leading guided maths and reading interventions to support children working at different attainment levels.
• Assisting the class teacher with resource preparation, displays, and general classroom management.
• Providing targeted 1:1 support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or those requiring extra emotional encouragement.
• Promoting positive behaviour, self-regulation, and independent learning habits.

Who We’re Looking For

• Experience: Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, ideally within Key Stage 1.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of early literacy, systematic synthetic phonics, and basic Key Stage 1 maths concepts.
• Mindset: Patient, energetic, adaptable, and nurturing with a positive approach to learning support.
• Qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or relevant degree/experience) preferred.

Requirements

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
• Full eligibility to work in the UK with professional references covering the last two years.
