Are you an experienced SEMH or SEND Teacher who thrives in a specialist or alternative education setting?

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established Alternative Provision in Rotherham, supporting pupils who require a more personalised and nurturing approach to education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident, resilient and engaging teacher who understands that successful teaching within an AP is about much more than delivering the curriculum – it’s about building relationships, breaking down barriers to learning and helping young people re-engage with education.

The Role

You will be working with pupils across Primary and/or Key Stage 3, delivering engaging and appropriately adapted lessons to young people with a range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and additional SEND needs.

The provision delivers a modified curriculum, with learning adapted around pupils’ individual starting points, strengths and areas of difficulty. Some pupils also access more nurturing and project-based learning pathways.

You will:

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with additional needs.
• Adapt teaching to meet a wide range of academic, social and emotional needs.
• Use strong behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Build positive, consistent relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education.
• Support pupils to develop resilience, confidence, self-regulation and independence.
• Work closely with Learning Mentors, support staff and the wider pastoral team.
• Create a structured, safe and nurturing classroom environment.

About You

We are particularly interested in hearing from teachers who have previous experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEMH school, SEND setting or similar specialist environment.

You will ideally have:

• QTS/QTLS or a relevant teaching qualification.
• Previous experience teaching pupils with SEMH, SEND and/or challenging behaviour.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Confidence adapting the curriculum for pupils working at different levels.
• A calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach.
• The ability to establish positive relationships with pupils who may be disengaged from education.
• A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve positive outcomes.
