Job Title: Learning/Behaviour Mentor

Location: Borough of Hillingdon, London

Type: Full-Time (with potential for Permanent)

Working Hours; 08:30 am – 16:00 pm.

About Us: We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Learning/Behaviour Mentor to join a school, working in the vibrant borough of Hillingdon, London. Students, aged between 5 – 18 years old, present a diverse range of special needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), Autism, Learning Difficulties, ADHD, and Challenging Behaviour. This position is scheduled to begin from 3rd of June or sooner depending on the candidate and will continue until July 2025, with the potential for a permanent contract offered by December 2024.

Position Overview: As a Learning/Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in providing essential support to students with complex needs, helping them overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Your expertise and commitment will contribute to creating safe and inclusive learning environments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Behavioural Support: Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEMH, Autism, Learning Difficulties, ADHD, and Challenging Behaviour.
  • Behaviour Management: Implement effective behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours, promote emotional regulation, and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Mentoring: Act as a positive role model, offering guidance and encouragement to students, helping them develop self-esteem and confidence.
  • Crisis Intervention: Intervene in crisis situations, de-escalating conflicts and ensuring the emotional and physical safety of students.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents/guardians to implement individualized behaviour plans and support strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on the progress of students, maintaining accurate records of behavioural interventions and improvements.
  • Communication: Foster positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians, providing regular updates on students’ progress and well-being.

Ideal Skill Set and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Learning/Behaviour Mentor or in a similar role, particularly with students who have SEMH, Autism, Learning Difficulties, ADHD, and Challenging Behaviour.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies, with a track record of successfully implementing interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents/guardians.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting students’ development and well-being.
  • Crisis intervention training or experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.
