Become a partner school of the Engage Teacher Training Programme

We are incredibly proud to have a Teacher Training Programme, enabling us to upskill and inspire the next generation of teachers. We put quality training at the heart of our recruitment and support practices, and our Teacher Training Programme is a logical extension of this! We are continuously looking for schools to partner with us and share their knowledge and passion with the teachers of tomorrow.

What does our Teacher Training Programme consist of?

Each Programme is different, so it’s important to understand the foundations of your programme and become familiar with it.

Graduates who enrol on the programme have varying levels of previous experience, come from a range of specialisms, and learn at different paces. So we’ve developed a flexible route to PGCE and QTS which is split into two broad phases. We’ll work closely with your school and the graduate trainees to help you decide when your trainees are ready to progress to the second phase and begin teaching independently.

Our training is split into two phases:

PHASE ONE: GETTING READY TO TEACH

Graduate trainees will work initially as; classroom assistants, cover supervisors, intervention tutors or potentially unqualified teachers based on prior skill and experience., This will offer the trainee the opportunity to gain valuable classroom experience and school experience as well as understanding teaching standards.

Ideally, graduate trainees will also begin taking some lessons and team-teaching a small number of classes, working towards providing support as a cover teacher for 50% of their timetable.

Trainees are provided with CPD and webinars by the Partnership and Development team at Engage. This offers the trainee an opportunity to speak to experts in education and immediately implement learning from the CPD sessions in their classrooms.

PHASE TWO: READY TO TEACH

Phase two will see students start their modular PGCE training, progressing towards the award of QTS. During this period, the graduate trainees will work as unqualified teachers, supplying their school minimally 12 hours per week in their chosen subject, working their way up to 18 hours per week by term 3.

What does our team look like?

The Engage Teacher Training Programme is designed and run by education experts from our Partnership & Development team alongside The National Institute of Teaching & Education at Coventry University. We’re on hand to answer all of your questions about hiring a specialist graduate for your school.

How do the costs work?

Whilst the candidate works in Phase 1 the candidate is paid appropriate to the role that they are in, and Engage Education charges the school a daily rate.

When the candidate enters Phase 2, i.e.: the PGCE year, Engage may charge a transfer fee.  The school can draw down funding from the Apprenticeship Levy to cover the costs of the training and assessment for the trainee. The trainee must be paid minimally Unqualified teacher pay scale 1 during this year.

Salary grants can be obtained for certain subjects each year. The current salary grants can be found here.
