Moving to England with your family

The UK is a fantastic destination for international teachers, especially those from South Africa. South Africa is a Commonwealth country, thus making the relocation process to England easier.

1. Find out if you’re eligible for a visa (and apply for it)

At Engage, we can give you a personalised visa application service, covering your visa eligibility and application processes. That way, you’re in the best place to get your visa approved on the first try, and can get on with moving!

2. Get a job before you make the move

Find an agency that specialises in your industry. (For teachers, that’s us.) We can find you a job before you make the move, to help you avoid burning through your savings while you try to find a job once you’re here.

3. Find a place to live before you move

To avoid spending money on temporary accommodation when you arrive, you’ll want to find a place to live before you leave South Africa. At Engage, your personal consultant will help find a place that works for you, your family, and your new job! (We’ll also help you set up amenities like a UK phone and bank account!)

4. Make connections before you arrive

At Engage, we can help you find a network of South African teachers who are already living in the UK. These guys know exactly what you’re facing and will be able to provide support before and after you make the move.

5. Enrol your children in school

If you have children, you’ll want to begin looking into their schooling as soon as possible. Enrolling your children into a state school is probably going to be the most attractive option for you, as it allows your children to have the benefit of making local friends and immersing themselves in British culture. Once you know what area of England you are moving to, you can contact local schools to determine their admissions criteria.
