About the Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join a thriving and inclusive secondary school in Wandsworth. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to begin or progress their career in education while completing a fully funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.
The school has a strong commitment to inclusion and student success. As part of the SEND provision, you will support students with a range of special educational needs, including:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
Physical disabilities and sensory needs
Students follow a broad and ambitious curriculum, including National Curriculum pathways, GCSEs, and vocational qualifications. You will play a vital role in helping them access learning and reach their full potential.
This role is available to start as soon as possible and combines hands-on classroom experience with structured training delivered during working hours, both in person and online.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting students with SEND on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
Assisting teachers with planning and delivering differentiated lessons
Supporting students’ academic, emotional, and behavioural development
Preparing and adapting learning resources to meet individual needs
Monitoring progress and providing feedback to teaching staff and parents
Promoting inclusion and positive behaviour across the school
Training & Development:
As part of your apprenticeship, you will complete specialist SEND-focused training, including workshops on:
The SEND landscape in the UK
Safeguarding in SEND settings
Adaptive curriculum design
Innovative assessment methods
Autism, ADHD, and Dyslexia
Trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
This training will equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive within a mainstream secondary SEND setting.
About You:
Previous school-based experience is not essential. We are looking for someone who:
Is passionate about supporting young people with SEND
Is patient, empathetic, and resilient
Has strong communication and teamwork skills
Is committed to completing a minimum 12-month apprenticeship
Holds GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above)
