SEND Teaching Assistant – Kingston

Engage Education is currently recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a specialist college supporting students aged 16–25 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities, including ASD, learning disabilities, and complex needs.

Learners follow a personalised curriculum designed to promote independence, communication, employability, and essential life skills. The college places strong emphasis on preparing students for adulthood, supporting them to become confident, active members of the community through structured routines, therapeutic input, and vocational opportunities.

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with lecturers and support staff to provide consistent, person-centred support and help ensure the progress and wellbeing of all learners.

About the Role

  • Support teaching staff in delivering personalised teaching and learning activities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to promote engagement, communication, and independence

  • Assist learners with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and daily routines

  • Implement positive behaviour strategies and follow individual support plans

  • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support teams to ensure consistent support

  • Contribute to maintaining accurate records and supporting learners’ individual development


Ideal Candidates Will:

  • Have experience supporting young people or adults with SEND (ASD, learning disabilities, and/or complex needs desirable)

  • Be able to build positive, professional relationships with students and staff

  • Demonstrate a calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Communicate clearly and work effectively as part of a team

  • Show resilience, flexibility, and a proactive attitude

  • Demonstrate a strong belief that learners with special educational needs can make meaningful progress

  • Show a clear commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety policies
