Are you a passionate Secondary SEND Teacher looking for a rewarding new challenge in a supportive and forward-thinking school?

Do you have the skills and enthusiasm to inspire young people with SEMH and ASD to achieve their potential, build resilience, and develop independence?

A specialist secondary school in Wandsworth is seeking a dedicated and understanding Secondary SEND Teacher to join their committed team. The school supports pupils aged 11–16 with a range of needs, including ASD, SEMH, and associated learning difficulties. Many students benefit from structured, therapeutic approaches that help them regulate emotions, manage anxiety, and access learning at their own pace.

The setting offers a highly personalised and flexible curriculum designed to meet students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. Facilities include therapeutic spaces, sensory rooms, vocational learning areas, and safe outdoor environments—creating opportunities for pupils to engage in meaningful, practical, and skills-based learning.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is creative, patient, and resilient, and who can build strong, trusting relationships with young people. You will lead a small class team and deliver a curriculum that supports emotional development, communication skills, and personal growth.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or overseas equivalent

  • Experience teaching in a SEND or specialist setting, ideally with secondary-aged pupils

  • Confident in leading and motivating a small team of Teaching Assistants
Strong communication, behaviour-support, and organisational skills

  • A calm, reflective, and adaptable approach to teaching and learning

  • Understanding of trauma-informed and autism-inclusive practice is highly desirable

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a class team to create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment

  • Plan and deliver personalised lessons that consider students’ EHCP targets, academic levels, and emotional needs

  • Implement strategies that support social-emotional development, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour

  • Collaborate closely with therapists, pastoral staff, and families to provide consistent and holistic support

  • Encourage independence, resilience, confidence, and positive communication in all learning opportunities

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on the lives of young people with SEMH and ASD, within a well-resourced and highly supportive specialist school.
