SEND Support Assistant – Fareham
Engage Education is currently in partnership with a small independent special school which caters to boys and girls aged 7 to 16 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties as well as other complex needs often associated with autistic spectrum conditions and learning difficulties.
The school focuses on the individual needs of each student, giving them opportunities to gain a variety of qualifications and routes to employment. They provide bespoke support, with creative learning and targeted interventions being at the forefront of their learning. It is a very calm environment, with small classroom sizes and low levels of challenging behaviours. So the ideal candidate will be someone who is happy to support within the classroom whilst providing a fun and nurturing environment.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate does not need to have any previous SEND experience, but must have a passion to work with children with SEMH and associated complex needs. There is very little behavioural needs within this school, but many of the children have anxiety, attachment disorders and experienced previous trauma. Someone who can bring a fun and bubbly personality, whilst being very nurturing and understanding will be the perfect candidate. If you think this sounds like you please apply as all training can be provided for this role!
This particular role is due to start in September – but there may be the possibility to start sooner for the right candidate. You will be working with a group of four Year 9/10 boys who will be studying towards their GCSEs. This group has a range of complex needs, including Autism, and will have some SEMH needs, which can include a reluctance to work. Therefore, the ideal candidate will need to be nurturing and be able to help build their self-confidence, build relationships with them, whilst also maintaining firm boundaries.
This role would also be well suited to any graduates who are looking to get into Education, as well as Youth Workers, Support Workers or anyone who has worked within mainstream education.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a lovely team, with the opportunity for career progression – this role is available as the current candidate has recently been promoted!

-
Be able to adapt to the needs of the child in lessons and assist them in their school day
