Pastoral Officer (SEMH) – Mainstream Secondary School, Worthing
Engage Education are currently working with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Worthing to recruit a Pastoral Officer (SEMH) to join their team as soon as possible. This is an initial 6-month contract, with a strong possibility of the role continuing on a permanent basis for the right candidate.

About the role
As a Pastoral Officer, you will be part of the school’s Inclusion Team, working closely with Year Leaders and Key Stage staff to support students’ personal, social, and academic development. You will play a key role in promoting student wellbeing, supporting behaviour management, and helping to remove barriers to learning.
The role will involve providing targeted pastoral support to a identified group of students across multiple year groups with additional SEMH needs. This includes supporting emotional wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, and engagement with learning, alongside facilitating learning where required.
A strong commitment to inclusion and the ability to work effectively with young people from a wide range of backgrounds is essential.
About you
Experience working in a school, youth work, pastoral, or social care setting is desirable
A strong understanding of strategies to support young people with SEMH and behavioural needs
Calm, resilient, and able to think clearly in challenging situations
Confident leading and working alongside others to achieve positive outcomes for students
Passionate about making a meaningful difference to young people’s lives
