Learning Support Assistant – Specialist Provision (Ages 16–19)

Location: Calderdale

Start Date: Immediate start available

Contract: Full-time, Monday–Friday | Long-term | Temp to Perm Opportunity

We are working in partnership with a specialist setting in Calderdale to recruit a committed and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to join their Post-16 provision. This is a rewarding role supporting young people aged 16–19 as they develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need for life beyond school.

About the Role

You will be supporting learners with identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, and ADHD. The setting offers a nurturing yet dynamic environment, and the ideal candidate will be able to shift comfortably between providing firm, consistent support for pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, and offering a gentle, patient approach for those who require calm reassurance.

Your work will focus on helping students build practical, real-world skills—so any additional expertise such as music, sports, construction, art, or other hands-on interests is warmly welcomed.

We’re Looking For:

Someone with relevant experience, either professionally or through valuable lived experience

A patient, emotionally intelligent approach

Flexibility and resilience in supporting pupils with diverse and changing needs

A positive role model who can promote independence and life skills

Someone ready to build strong, trusting relationships with young people

What the School Offers:

A warm, collaborative team

Ongoing support and CPD opportunities

A setting that values creativity, individuality, and meaningful progress

Why Apply?

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people preparing for adulthood. For the right person, the role has the potential to become a permanent position.

If you’re ready to start immediately—or are available from January—and feel you have the skills and heart to support these young people, we’d love to hear from you.
