Autism Learning Support Assistant

Location: Lewes

We’re looking for someone to play a vital role in supporting pupils across a school, delivering tailored educational support and helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide individualised support: Plan and deliver tailored learning sessions based on each pupil’s needs, abilities, and goals
  • Promote holistic development: Encourage academic, social, and emotional growth through engaging and inclusive teaching methods
  • Collaborate with staff: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent and effective support for pupils
  • Monitor progress: Track and document pupil development, providing regular feedback to parents and the wider team
  • Implement strategies for SEN: Use evidence-based techniques and resources to address a variety of needs, such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and emotional challenges
  • Support behaviour management: Use positive reinforcement and other strategies to promote engagement, self-regulation, and confidence
  • Create an inclusive environment: Foster a safe, welcoming space where every pupil feels valued and motivated to learn

 

Qualifications and skills required

  • A relevant qualification in education, SEN support, or a related field
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally within a school or specialist setting
  • Strong knowledge of strategies and interventions for supporting SEN pupils
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to navigate challenges and celebrate successes
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to meeting individual pupil needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children
