About Medway

Though towns on the River Medway have traditionally been unpopular with affluent ex-urbanites, this area of northern Kent offers buyers the opportunity to live in a well-connected period property by the river for considerably less than the property would cost elsewhere.

In recent years the Guardian have waxed lyrical about the ’ravishing beauty’ and historic charm  of up-and-coming Rochester. Nearby Chatham also offers an abundance of pretty Victorian properties near the station.

The Medway is a commuter’s dream, with Gillingham and Rochester connected to the UK’s southern high-speed train service. A commute from the Rochester into central London takes  just 35 minutes on average.

Schools in the Medway are a little limited in number and have been characterised in the past by their academic underachievement, but there are many different schools and teaching jobs to choose from, all within close proximity of London.

Medway in numbers:

  1. The average rent of a one-bedroom apartment in Chatham is £550 pcm, compared to £1,662 pcm in London
  2. The cost of living for a single person in Chatham is £688 pcm, compared to £772 pcm in London
  3. The journey from Chatham to King’s Cross St Pancras by train takes 42 minutes
