What is therapy? Why is therapy important? Why is therapy important in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings?
There are many different types of therapies available and our SEND schools often work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support pupils’ learning. Therapy offers a wide range of interventions and support that are designed to cater to individual pupils’ needs.
A multidisciplinary team is a group of health and social care professionals who are members of different disciplines (professions such as Psychiatrists, Social Workers, Therapists, etc), each providing specific services. A multidisciplinary approach in SEND settings brings together professionals from within and beyond the school. Each member of the team plays a critical role in identifying and analysing individual pupils’ strengths and needs.
SEND schools provide special education to pupils who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP). An EHCP is for children and young people aged up to 25 who need more support and identifies educational, health and social needs and set out the additional support to meet those needs. Each member of a multidisciplinary team has an essential contribution to identify and support each pupil’s learning as well as supporting the educators across all areas of the curriculum, learning opportunities and activities. They are also able to support the pupil in the home to ensure that there is a continuity of approach.
We are always looking for passionate therapists and health and social care professionals who want to work in our SEND schools.
