What to do if your agency isn’t offering you permanent roles

Many teachers choose to secure daily supply and long-term cover work through an agency, as it increases your chances of securing continuous work. Through using our connections with multiple trusted schools, we’re able to offer our supply teachers great relationships with schools and their cover managers, meaning you will be at the forefront of the schools’ minds when daily supply or long-term cover is needed.

Once you have the teaching experience you wanted from providing supply work, or you feel that the time is right for you to move to a permanent teaching role, you can expect your agency to have the connections and expertise to offer you permanent work. However, you may find that some agencies are hesitant to offer you permanent work, or they may tell you that it is too early in the year to start interviewing for permanent roles. Some teachers working with an agency report that they are unsure whether their current long-term cover position has the potential to turn into a permanent position at the school, which can cause insecurity and stress for the future.

How can Engage help?

As the UK’s most trusted education recruitment company, we pride ourselves on complete transparency about our roles, including the future prospects of all of our short- and long-term supply roles.

At Engage, our consultants are interviewing teachers for permanent roles right now. Schools are looking for candidates to fill empty positions earlier and earlier to secure the best candidates, and we work with you to secure your role as early in the year as possible. Our aim is to give you peace of mind for your career and allow you to plan your life around your professional commitments.

Your Engage consultant will select schools for you based on your individual preferences and goals, and can then work with you to arrange interviews around your current working schedule. This way you won’t need to disturb your current teaching role in order to secure the next step in your career.

As always, our support team will work with you to ensure you are completely prepared to ace your interviews, with tailored one-on-one CPD to cover everything you need to know before going into your chosen school. We will also collect feedback on your interview from the school to give you further insight.

Once you have secured your new permanent role, you’ll be able to relax and enjoy the rest of the school year at your current school, with lots of time to prepare before beginning your new job. Your Engage consultant will be on hand at all times to suggest CPD events to attend before beginning your permanent teaching job, and our Teaching & Learning Partnership will ensure you’re fully prepared before you start.

To start your job search today, get in touch or register as a candidate and one of our Engage consultants will be in touch to tell you about our current permanent teaching vacancies and start you on the next stage of your career straight away.
